Bangladeshi man's leg severed in landmine blast on Naikhongchhari border

A young Bangladeshi man lost one of his legs in a landmine explosion near the Naikhongchhari border in Bandarban. The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 28) afternoon near the zero line, close to the 47 and 48 border pillars in the Jaruliyachhara area along the border with Myanmar.

The injured man has been identified as Abdul Karim (23), a resident of Jaruliyachhara village in Ward No. 7 of Naikhongchhari Sadar Union. He is the son of Makbul Hossain. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Cox's Bazar in critical condition.

Local residents said Abdul Karim was in the area on Tuesday afternoon when he stepped on a landmine. Locals claimed he had gone there for smuggling activities. A landmine is an explosive device concealed under the ground or roadway, designed to be detonated by pressure or proximity of a vehicle or person .

Following the incident, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is closely monitoring the situation, and patrols have been stepped up in the border area. However, the BGB has not made any official comment on the matter. The Naf River and the surrounding border area, where the explosion occurred, is an international border with a history of such incidents .

Naikhongchhari Sadar Union Parishad Administrator and Youth Development Officer Md Mahbub Ilahi confirmed he was aware of the incident and has tasked the concerned ward member to gather further details.

Naikhongchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mohammad Haque confirmed the incident and stated that the law and order situation in the area is currently normal.
