Bangladeshi migrant Killed in Malaysia construction accident
A Bangladeshi migrant worker from Faridpur was killed in a workplace accident at a construction site in Malaysia on Friday (July 10).
The deceased, Md Shoaib Biswas, 23, hailed from Murutia village in Faridpur's Saltha upazila.
According to his family, he died after being crushed by a boom crane while installing firefighting pipes at a construction project in Johor Bahru.
Shuaib had first travelled to Malaysia in 2023 for employment. He returned to Bangladesh on leave in April this year, got married, and flew back to Malaysia on July 1 to resume work.
His brother-in-law, Md Tuhin Hasan, said the family was informed of the incident by a Bangladeshi representative of the company, who also shared photos and videos from the accident site. The company has indicated that it may take up to three weeks to repatriate the body.
Faridpur Expatriates Welfare Centre Assistant Director Md Ashik Siddiqui said that if the victim had been employed legally, the repatriation process would be coordinated through the employer and the Bangladesh High Commission.
He added that the centre would assist the family with any necessary support.
