Bangladeshi national detained by BSF

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have detained a young man named Azibur Rahman, 23, at the border in Bhurungamari, Kurigram.

He was detained by the BSF when he entered Indian territory adjacent to the Donalar Matha area of Kaziar Char in Shilkhuri Union of the upazila late on Monday, August 10.

Azibur Rahman is the son of Nurul, also known as Bina Mia, from the Kaziar Char area of Uttar Dhaldanga in Shilkhuri Union.

Locals said several people entered Indian territory through an area near the international border pillar late on Monday night. They attempted to flee upon sensing the presence of the BSF. While others managed to escape, Azibur was apprehended by the Indian forces.

Legal procedures are underway between the BGB and BSF for his repatriation.

Lt Col Mohammad Mahbub-ul-Haq, commander of the 22 BGB battalion in Kurigram, said, "When a Bangladeshi citizen enters Indian territory, the BSF detains them there. Legal steps are being taken to bring the detained citizen back."
