Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF
A Bangladeshi man was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Goyeshpur border in Jiban Nagar upazila of Chuadanga on Saturday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Shahidul Islam, 37, son of Naskar Ali of Goyeshpur village. The incident occurred around 4:00pm on 29 November.
According to locals, Shahidul Islam and 5–6 other Bangladeshis entered Indian territory near main pillar No. 70 of the Goyeshpur border on Saturday afternoon. Members of BSF Battalion 32 opened fire on them, leaving Shahidul dead on the spot. The others managed to flee back into Bangladesh. BSF later took Shahidul’s body into their custody.
Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Alam, commanding officer of BGB Battalion 58 in Maheshpur, said the shooting took place about 50 yards inside Indian territory beyond the border fence. He said preliminary information suggests the group had crossed the border to collect drugs. BGB has contacted BSF seeking the return of the body.
