Bangladeshi shot dead by ‘Indian Khasi’ at Sylhet border

A Bangladeshi man has been shot dead by members of Indian 'Khasi' community, in the Kanaighat border area of Sylhet. Police recovered his body from the Lovachhara border area of the upazila around midnight on Saturday.

The deceased was Jamal Uddin, 45, son of the late Mokarram Ali of Kandala Banglatila village, located near the Indian border in Kanaighat.

Police and several local residents said Jamal had left home on Saturday afternoon. Later at night, police recovered him with gunshot wounds inside Bangladesh territory at Bhalukmara village. Earlier, Jamal and a few others had gone inside Indian territory.

At that time, Indian Khasis opened fire targeting the Bangladeshis. Jamal was shot and later rescued by his companions, who brought him back inside Bangladesh. Police arrived after receiving information and recovered Jamal's body.

Kanaighat Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Abdul Awal said the body has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The body will be handed over to the family after the autopsy.
