A Bangladeshi youth was killed in a firing by Khasia people inside India in the Companiganj border area of ​​Sylhet. The incident took place around 8:30pm on Thursday.

The deceased Saleh Ahmed, 30, is the son of the deceased Biram Ali of Karbala Tuk village under Dayarbazar Post Office in Companiganj upazila.

According to BGB and local sources, Saleh Ahmed crossed the border with two others and entered about a kilometer inside India on Thursday night. He was accompanied by Sumon Mia, 25, of Nazirgaon village and Masum Ahmed, 20, of the same area. They were staying in the area between Chongket and Markan gardens.

At that time, while they were in the betel garden, some members of the Khasia community fired pellets at them, suspecting them to be thieves. Saleh Ahmed was shot and died on the spot. Later, the two people who were with him brought Saleh's body to Bangladesh.

Sylhet BGB-48 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Haque said, initially it was learned that Saleh Ahmed and the three were involved in border smuggling.

Officer-in-Charge of Companiganj Police Station Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan said, after learning about the incident, the police started an investigation on Friday afternoon. An officer has been sent to Saleh Ahmed's house to inquire into the matter.
