Bangladeshi student killed in Canada road accident
A Bangladeshi student has died in a road accident in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
The accident occurred at 1:32am local time on Friday near the intersection of Mayor Avenue and Newtown Road.
The local police agency, the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC), said that a car with four passengers lost control and overturned, breaking through the boundary wall of a cemetery next to the road and entering it.
Upon receiving information, rescue workers reached the scene and took the four injured to the hospital. Then the doctor on duty declared Md. Istinab Mahi, 23, dead. The other three passengers in the car were injured, but they are currently out of danger and undergoing treatment.
The deceased Mahi is from Chattogram. He is the son of Md. Mohib Ullah and Parveen Akhter. He obtained GPA-5 in the SSC examination from Chattogram Collegiate School in 2019 and HSC examination from Chattogram College in 2021. Later, he enrolled in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He was also serving as the brand ambassador of Bangladesh at the university.
Police said that an investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, the family has sought the cooperation of the concerned authorities to quickly repatriate Mahi's body after completing the legal process.
