A Bangladeshi youth was killed in the firing by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at Sadar upazila of Panchagarh.

The incident took place on Saturday (March 8) in the Khalpara area of India opposite to Sweedanga area on the border of Bhitargarh in Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Al-Amin (36), son of Suruj Ali of Jinnat Para village in Haribhasa union of Sadar upazila.

According to BGB and local sources, Al-Amin has been missing for the past three days. On Saturday morning, a patrol team of the Indian Bhatpara BSF camp spotted a group of 10-15 people including Al-Amin. When they attacked them, the BSF also opened fire on them in self-defense. At that time, the others managed to escape, but Al-Amin was killed. Later, the BSF took his body to India.

Upon receiving the news in the morning, Lieutenant Colonel Sheikh Md Badruddoja, commander of the 56th BGB Battalion in Nilphamari, held a flag meeting with the commander of the 46th BSF Battalion in India at the border.

In the flag meeting, he strongly protested the incident and called for the return of the body.

Confirming that a “smuggler” was killed in BSF firing, Sheikh Md Badruddoja said, “Some 10 to 15 smugglers from India and Bangladesh attacked the BSF and the BSF was forced to open fire in self-defense.”
