Bangladeshi youth killed in BSF firing at Kulaura border
A young Bangladeshi man was shot and killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Dattagram border in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar district on Saturday night. The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Baidya, 25, son of Shailendra Baidya, from Nishchintapur village in the same upazila.
Azizul Haque Darud, a member of Sharifpur Union Parishad in Kulaura, said, “On the night of May 31, BSF shot Pradeep in the left leg near border pillar 57 in Debipur, under Rangaoti Gram Panchayat of Kailashahar upazila in Unakoti district, Tripura. He died on the spot due to heavy bleeding. His body is currently at Kailashahar Hospital in India.”
Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria, commander of BGB Battalion-46, said, “We came to know about the incident through locals. So far, no general diary or missing report has been filed. BSF has not officially informed us either. But according to different sources, Pradeep’s body is currently at Kailashahar Hospital in India.”
Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Golam Apsar said, “Since the incident took place in the border area, the BGB is mainly responsible. However, we have also heard that a Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by the BSF and his body is in India.”
