A Bangladeshi youth was killed and several others injured when Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) opened fire at the Dona border in Sylhet's Kanaighat, on Friday night (August 29).

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rahman, 25, son of Khalilur Rahman of Atgram Barachatol village, reportedly crossed the border illegally with a group of four to five people.

The other members—Jamil Ahmed, Hussain Ahmed, Aynul Haque, and Jumil Ahmed—sustained injuries but managed to return to Bangladesh.

Kanaighat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Awal, quoting BGB Dona Camp, confirmed that the group attempted to enter India, where the BSF opened fire. According to local sources, the group regularly crossed the border to smuggle goods.

BGB 19 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Zubair Anwar said the body of the deceased is being handed over through a BGB-BSF flag meeting after verification.
