A young man from the Hasanabad area of Bandura union in Nababganj upazila, Dhaka, has reportedly been killed in the Russia-Ukraine war, his family has claimed.

Saeed Molla, 35, went to Russia on May 7 this year through a local broker, taking a loan of around Tk 16 lakh in hopes of earning a better income. Contact with him was lost just a few days after his departure.

After arriving in Russia, he and several other Bangladeshis were kept in a camp on the promise of work, and were later taken under the control of the army. The family alleges they were then sent to the battlefield.

Saeed's wife, Reshma Begum, received news of his death on the night of June 13, though no confirmed information has been obtained regarding the exact circumstances of his death.

The family also said that among the 30 Bangladeshis who were with Saeed, it was from them that they learned that these citizens had been sent to the battlefield of the Russia-Ukraine war.

Saeed's mother, Mini Begum, said, "I used to survive on this son's household. A shadow of mourning has fallen over the entire family due to his death."

The family has demanded confirmation of the correct information regarding Saeed's death, repatriation of his body, and an investigation and action against those involved in the incident.
