Bangladeshi youth shot dead by BSF at Kulaura border
A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Kulaura border in Moulvibazar on Thursday (December 4).
The deceased was identified as Sukhiram Urang, 25, of Murichhara Bosti in the upazila’s Kamalganj union.
According to locals and police, Sukhiram was herding cattle around 1:30pm near main border pillars 1844 and 1845 at Murichhara when BSF personnel opened fire on him. He sustained bullet injuries to his back and started bleeding profusely. He died on the way to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex.
Police later recovered the body and took it to the local police station.
Omar Faruk, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kulaura Police Station, said initial findings indicate Sukhiram died from bullet wounds. The body has been sent to the 250-bed Moulvibazar District Hospital morgue for autopsy.
"Legal procedures are underway into this matter," he added.
The Murichhara border area falls under BGB’s 46 Battalion. Lieutenant Colonel A.S.M. Zakaria, commanding officer of the battalion, said they are aware of the incident. He said Sukhiram may have been shot after crossing the zero-line, according to their initial assumption. BGB is currently collecting detailed information.
