The Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a statement urging Bangladeshi citizens residing in Saudi Arabia to refrain from performing Hajj without obtaining an official permit, in line with new regulations introduced by the Saudi government.

The appeal, made on Friday (May 2), aims to ensure smooth Hajj management, safeguard the well-being of pilgrims, and maintain strong bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.

Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain reiterated the ministry’s position, requesting Bangladeshi nationals to avoid unauthorized Hajj activities. The ministry also advised against remaining in Mecca or other holy sites on visit visas during the ongoing Hajj season.

Additionally, Bangladeshis have been asked not to support or facilitate the unauthorised Hajj process by sponsoring, transporting, or arranging accommodation in hotels or residences for visit visa holders attempting to perform Hajj without proper authorisation.

Saudi authorities have implemented strict new rules to regulate access to Mecca, manage overcrowding, and strengthen security. Under these regulations, only individuals with a valid Hajj permit, Iqamah (residency permit in Mecca), or official authorisation to work in the holy sites may enter Mecca during the Hajj season.

Violations carry significant penalties. Performing Hajj without a permit can result in a fine of up to 20,000 Saudi Riyals. Assisting others in unauthorised Hajj activities could lead to a fine of up to 100,000 Riyals. Foreign nationals caught violating these rules may also face deportation and a 10-year ban from reentering Saudi Arabia.

These restrictions will be enforced from Zilqad 1 (April 29) to Zilhaj 14 (June 10), covering the critical period of the Hajj pilgrimage.
