Acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique has said that around 400 Bangladeshis living in Tehran will be relocated to safer locations.

He provided this information during a press conference on Tuesday (June 17) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, addressing the Iran-Israel conflict and the safety of Bangladeshi nationals abroad.

The Acting Foreign Secretary said, “Bangladeshis in Tehran want to move to safer places. Already, 100 people have contacted us. A total of 400 citizens in Tehran will be relocated. After that, arrangements will be made to bring them back to Bangladesh safely.”

“Bangladeshi citizens and embassy officials in Tehran are under threat. The residence of the Bangladeshi ambassador in Tehran has already been relocated. About 40 embassy staff and their family members will be taken to a safe place,” he added.

Notably, Iran and Israel—two major regional rivals in the Middle East—have been locked in a series of attacks for the past five days. The conflict erupted on Friday when Israel launched strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military sites, significantly heightening tensions in the region.
