Bangladesh-Nepal relations need to be enhanced for economic development: Adviser

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin believes that both countries will benefit by increasing the trade volume between Bangladesh and Nepal. At the same time, he also said that there is a need to increase relations for the economic development of the two countries.

He said this during a courtesy call on Nepalese Ambassador Ghanshyam Bhandari at his office at the Secretariat on Sunday (February 23).

The meeting discussed in detail the increase in trade, power supply, strengthening relations and the Nepal Economic Summit between the two countries.

Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said that the relations between the two countries need to be enhanced for the economic development of the two countries. Bangladesh is interested in working on a long-term plan to ensure strategic partnership. At this time, he mentioned that both countries will benefit by increasing the trade volume between the two countries.

The Nepalese ambassador described the relations with Bangladesh as historical and excellent, saying that Nepal imports agricultural products from Bangladesh. Bangladesh signed a tripartite agreement with India and Nepal on October 3 to import electricity from Nepal. Under the agreement, Bangladesh will receive 40 MW of electricity from Nepal via India for five months from June to November 2025. At the time, Ghanshyam Bhandari expressed hope that the amount of electricity exports will increase in the future.

At the meeting, Ghanshyam Bhandari handed over an invitation to Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin to participate in the Nepal Economic Summit to be held in Nepal. Commerce Secretary (Routine Responsibilities) Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and Additional Secretary (FTA) Ayesha Akhtar were present at the time.
