Bangladesh’s acting envoy to Russia Faisal relieved of duties

Faisal Ahmed, the Acting Ambassador (Chargé d’Affaires) of Bangladesh in Russia, has been officially relieved of his duties and instructed to return to Dhaka immediately, according to a directive from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In his place, Mohammad Niaz Morshed, the Political Counselor at the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow, has been appointed as the new Acting Ambassador. The appointment took effect on Tuesday, May 27.

The decision to recall Faisal Ahmed follows his controversial social media post criticizing the interim government’s appointment of Asad Alam Siam, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States, as the new Foreign Secretary. Faisal's post was deemed a breach of diplomatic norms and official protocol.

Additionally, Faisal Ahmed is facing allegations of sexual harassment made by a woman on social media, further intensifying scrutiny over his conduct.
