Bangladesh’s banking sector looting unprecedented: Finance Adviser
Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has claimed that the scale of looting and money laundering in Bangladesh’s banking sector is unmatched by any other country.
Speaking at the inauguration of a nationwide tree plantation programme at the Bangladesh Krishi Bank Staff College in Mirpur on Wednesday, Dr. Ahmed expressed serious concern over the state of the country’s financial institutions.
“The way money has been laundered from Bangladesh and the manner in which the banking sector has been looted—this has not happened anywhere else in the world,” he said.
Despite the widespread irregularities, Dr. Ahmed noted that Bangladesh Krishi Bank is in comparatively better shape than other financial institutions.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to reforming the financial sector, adding that these efforts will continue as long as he remains in office.
Dr. Ahmed’s remarks come amid growing concerns about rising loan defaults, weak governance, and lack of transparency in the country's banking system.
