Banks to remain closed for 7 consecutive days during Eid holidays

Bangladesh Bank has ordered that transactions in the ready-made garment sector will continue on a limited scale even during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays. This decision has been taken to ensure smooth payment of salaries and allowances and festival bonuses to workers.

Bank branches related to the ready-made garment industry in Dhaka, Gazipur, Narayanganj and Savar areas will remain open on Monday (May 25) and Tuesday (May 26). Transaction activities will be conducted from 10am to 1pm on these two days. However, banks will remain open until 3pm.

Bangladesh Bank sent instructions in this regard to all scheduled banks in the country on Monday (May 18).

As per the central bank's instructions, banks will also remain open on May 23 and May 24. After that, they will remain closed for seven consecutive days from May 25 to May 31. However, it was decided to keep banking services open on a limited scale on those two days to facilitate the payment of salaries and bonuses to workers in the garment industry.
