Banks to remain closed for 9 consecutive days on Eid

Banks will remain closed from March 28 to April 5 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Bangladesh Bank announced this information in a notification on Monday. In the notification, some bank branches in industrial areas have been asked to remain open on March 28 and 29. The central bank has asked banking operations to continue on these two days to facilitate the payment of salaries and allowances to garment sector workers.

The notification said that all branches and sub-branches of scheduled banks will remain closed on this day as a government holiday has been declared by an executive order on April 3 on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Before Eid-ul-Fitr, bank branches in industrial areas will be kept open on March 28 and 29 for the sale of export bills by various institutions related to the ready-made garment industry and for the payment of salaries, bonuses and other allowances to those working in the industry.

The areas where bank branches will remain open include Dhaka Metropolitan City, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj and Chattogram.

According to the instructions, bank branches in these areas will be open from 10 am to 3 pm on March 28 (Friday). Transactions will continue from 10 am to 12 pm.

Bank branches will be open from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. During this period, transactions will continue from 10 am to 1 pm.
