Banned Awami League stages protest march in Rajshahi
A protest march was held under the banner of the banned Awami League and its associate organisations in Paba, Rajshahi, on Tuesday morning, June 9. The march took place around 6:00 am on the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway in the Puthiapara area of Nowhata municipality and ended within a short time.
Banners carried in the march read "Sheikh Hasina will come, Bangladesh will smile" and "We do not accept the illegal ban, will not accept it; it must be withdrawn immediately." Slogans were also chanted during the march. Video footage showed about 20 leaders and activists participating.
Witnesses said the activists dispersed after just a few minutes.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Additional Deputy Commissioner Gaziur Rahman said he was not aware of the march, adding that legal action would be taken if such a protest is held while the organisation's activities remain banned. He said they would begin looking into the matter.
