Leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League staged a protest march and rally in support of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and against the current government in Sadar upazila, Noakhali. Police initially tried to block the procession, but as the number of participants swelled, they eventually retreated from the scene.

The programme was organised by the union Chhatra League and Jubo League at Badherhat Bazar in Noannai union after Juma prayers on Friday, June 5.

According to local sources, a large number of leaders, activists and supporters of Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League gathered at the bazar area after Juma prayers. Police had taken position there beforehand and attempted to stop the programme. However, ignoring the obstruction, the protesters paraded through various roads of the bazar.

The rally was presided over by former president of Noannai union Chhatra League, Ashraful Karim Chowdhury Babu.

Speaking at the rally, he said they had taken to the streets to protest against injustice, terrorism and extortion. He vowed that their movement would continue until Sheikh Hasina returns to the country.

Later, speaking to the media, Ashraful Karim Chowdhury Babu said many activists initially scattered due to police obstruction, but later regrouped to complete the march and rally.

Sodharam Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Touhidul Islam said multiple police teams had been deployed at the spot after receiving prior information. While protesters were initially obstructed, police personnel withdrew considering the situation as their numbers continued to swell.
