Leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League held a rally on the highway wearing masks, just 200 yards from the Patiya Police Station in Chattogram. Slogans were chanted in support of Sheikh Hasina during the rally. Police said efforts are underway to identify those involved.

The rally took place in the Post Office area of Patiya municipal town in Chattogram early on Wednesday (July 29) morning.

Local sources said 8 to 10 masked youths brought out the rally on the highway.

Slogans including "Sheikh Hasina will return, Bangladesh will smile" and "Tungipara's Sheikh Mujib, salute salute salute" were chanted during the rally. The protesters later left the area quickly.

Patiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ziaul Haque said news of a rally by the proscribed Chhatra League was received in the morning. As all those who took part in the rally were masked, their identities could not be confirmed. However, efforts are underway to identify those involved and take necessary legal action.
