Banned Jubo League leader, ex-councillor hacked to death in Kishoreganj

A local leader of the banned Jubo League and former councillor was hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Bhairab of Kishoreganj district.

Al Amin, 40, was attacked around midnight on Sunday (August 24) in the Tinpatti area of Bhairab municipality while he was on his way home from his business establishment.

He was critically injured in the attack and later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3am, police said.

According to relatives, Al Amin had left his River View residential hotel on a motorcycle at around 11:50pm. As he travelled along a road near his home, a group of assailants intercepted him and repeatedly hacked him with sharp weapons.

He suffered multiple injuries to his head and a severed vein in one leg, resulting in severe blood loss, relatives said. Locals rescued him and initially took him to a private hospital before doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Al Amin was the general secretary of Bhairab municipal Jubo League and a former councillor of Ward No. 1. He also previously served as a director of the Bhairab Chamber of Commerce and Industries and was involved in the fertiliser business. He owned the River View residential hotel in Bhairab Bazar.

Md Mahabur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhairab Police Station, confirmed the incident.

Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the killing or identified the assailants. An investigation is underway.
