Barapukuria power plant's Unit 1 shut down again due to mechanical fault

Unit 1 of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has been shut down again due to a mechanical fault. The unit was supplying 50 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.

Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant Chief Engineer Abu Bakar Siddique confirmed the matter on Friday afternoon.

He said repair work is underway to fix the mechanical fault and restart the unit. Before the shutdown, the unit was supplying 50 megawatts of electricity daily to the national grid.

According to plant sources, Unit 1 had previously shut down on July 31 due to a mechanical fault. It was restarted on August 2 after repairs, only to shut down again within days.

Currently, Unit 3 of the Barapukuria plant is supplying 170 megawatts to the national grid, while Unit 2 has been closed since 2020.
