Barguna Hospital superintendent suspended for making immoral proposals to female doctor

The government has temporarily suspended Barguna General Hospital superintendent Dr. Md. Rezwanur Alam on charges of making immoral proposals and making indecent gestures to a female doctor. At the same time, a departmental case has been filed against him.

He was temporarily suspended in a notification signed by Md. Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. The matter came to light on Thursday night.

The notification said that since a female doctor joined Barguna General Hospital last June, the hospital superintendent Dr. Rezwanur Alam would call her to his room for no reason whenever he got the opportunity. There, he would make immoral proposals and make indecent gestures.

According to Section 39(1) of the Government Services Act, 2018, if departmental proceedings are proposed or initiated against a government employee, he can be suspended considering the seriousness of the complaint. The notification said that Rezwanur Alam has been suspended due to the fear of influencing the investigation.

The complainant, a female doctor, said that the health department has taken the matter very seriously. In her words, this step is an important message for the society. Whoever it is—superior or subordinate—everyone should be aware of their behavior at work. Departmental activities will continue as per the rules.

When asked about the complaint, Dr. Rezwanur Alam said, I do not want to comment on this matter.
