Battery-powered rickshaw drivers blocked a key road in Badda on Monday (January 19), demanding a ban on lithium battery-operated rickshaws. They also warned of continued protests if their demand is not met. The obstruction began around 9:30am near Fuji Tower, disrupting traffic along the Kuril–Rampura road and causing severe inconvenience for commuters. Badda Police Inspector (Operations) Azharul Islam said the drivers have blocked the road over a specific demand. “The protest has worsened traffic congestion, especially with ongoing metro rail construction. We are at the site trying to negotiate with them,” he added.

রাজধানীর বাড্ডায় ব্যাটারিচালিত রিকশা চালকরা সড়ক অবরোধ করেছেন। তারা লিথিয়াম ব্যাটারিচালিত রিকশা বন্ধের দাবি জানিয়ে এ কর্মসূচিতে নেমেছেন। দাবি মেনে নেওয়া না হলে আন্দোলন চালিয়ে যাওয়ার হুঁশিয়ারি দিয়েছেন তারা। সোমবার (১৯ জানুয়ারি) সকাল সাড়ে ৯টার দিকে ফুজি টাওয়ারের সামনে অবরোধ শুরু করে তারা। এর ফলে কুড়িল থেকে রামপুরা সড়কে যান চলাচল সম্পূর্ণ বন্ধ রয়েছে। স্থানীয়রা সকাল থেকেই ভোগান্তিতে পড়েছেন। বাড্ডা থানার পরিদর্শক (অপারেশন) আজহারুল ইসলাম বলেন, একটি দাবি নিয়ে রিকশা চালকরা রাস্তা বন্ধ করেছেন। মেট্রোরেলের কাজ চলাকালীন এই অবরোধে যানজটের সমস্যা আরও বেড়ে গেছে। আমরা ঘটনাস্থলে গিয়ে তাদের বোঝানোর চেষ্টা করছি।
