BAU students block Dhaka-Mymensingh rail route over BCS exam delay
Students of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) blocked the railway line on Sunday (November 23), demanding the postponement of the 47th BCS written exam.
Train services between Dhaka and Mymensingh remain suspended, leaving passengers stranded and facing significant disruption.
From the morning, students marched from various halls and gathered near Abdul Jabbar Mor, adjacent to the railway tracks. Around 11.00am, they stopped the Teesta Express bound for Mymensingh from Dhaka.
Protesting students chanted various slogans including “Everyone gets six months, why only two for us?”
Ashraful Islam, a student, said the reduced preparation time for government jobs is unfair and the blockade will continue until PSC revises the schedule.
Another student, Meheraj Hasan Rafi, emphasized the need for adequate preparation for the written exam.
Passengers, like Abdul Qadir, acknowledged the students’ demands but urged that travel disruptions be minimized.
Akhtar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mymensingh Railway Police, said, "Authorities are negotiating with the students alongside university officials and district administration. Train services are expected to resume soon after discussions."
