Baul Abul Sarkar arrested over religious blasphemy

Baul singer Abul Sarkar was arrested on early Thursday (November 20) over allegations of making religiously offensive remarks during a “Bichar” song performance in Madaripur.

Following his arrest, he was sent to Manikganj court, which ordered him jailed after hearing.

Additional Police Superintendent Md. Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed Poluce from Detective Branch (DB) arrested him following a case was filed against him at Ghiur Police Station.

OC Kohinoor Mia said the case was filed by Mufti Mohammad Abdullah, resident of Kusta village.

The incident stems from a performance on November 4 at the annual Khala Pagli Urs and fair at Jabra Bazar in Ghiur, where a video of Abul Sarkar allegedly making religiously offensive comments went viral on social media.

Protests and human chains were held outside Manikganj court demanding justice.
