Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur has announced that the exchange rate of the US dollar will be determined by the market. However, he believes that due to high export and remittance flows, the value of the dollar will not rise significantly. He made this announcement virtually during a meeting organized by Bangladesh Bank on Wednesday. According to the Governor, this shift to a market-based exchange rate will allow Bangladesh to receive two tranches of funding from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) by June. Dr Mansur clarified that adopting a market-based rate does not mean that the dollar will be bought at any price. He expressed his hope that the exchange rate will remain close to the current market rate for buying and selling the dollar.

ডলারের দর বাজারভিত্তিক করার ঘোষণা দিয়েছেন বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গভর্নর ড. আহসান এইচ মনসুর। তবে রপ্তানি, রেমিট্যান্সের উচ্চ প্রবাহের ফলে ডলারের দর বাড়বে না বলে তিনি মনে করেন। বুধবার (১৪ মে) বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের সভাকক্ষে ভার্চুয়ালি যুক্ত হয়ে তিনি এ ঘোষণা দেন। এ ঘোষণার মধ্যে দিয়ে আগামী জুনে আইএমএফের ২ কিস্তি পাওয়া যাবে বলে মনে করেন বাংলাদেশ ব্যাংকের গভর্নর ড. আহসান এইচ মনসুর। গভর্নর বলেন, বাজারভিত্তিক করার মানেই যে কোনো দরে কিনবে তেমন না। এখন যে দরে বেচাকেনা হচ্ছে তার আশপাশেই থাকবে বলে তিনি আশা করেন।
