BB to raise Tk25cr fund for July uprising victims

Bangladesh Bank has initiated the creation of a special fund of Tk 25 crore to support the families of those killed and to provide treatment for the injured in the July 2024 mass uprising.

The decision was taken at a meeting held at the central bank today (8 July).

Out of the total fund, Bangladesh Bank will contribute Tk14 crore from its own resources, while 11 selected banks will each contribute Tk1 crore.

This afternoon, BB Governor Ahsan H Mansur chaired a meeting with the managing directors of all commercial banks. Before the meeting, he held a separate discussion with the MDs of 11 banks that have demonstrated strong performance across various indicators. During this discussion, he urged them to each contribute Tk1 crore to the fund, and they agreed.

The participating banks will now seek approval from their respective boards before transferring the pledged amounts to the central bank.
