The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is holding its highly anticipated Board of Directors election on Sunday (June 7). Voting began at 10am at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur and will conclude at 4pm. The names of the winning directors will be officially announced following the vote counting, and the elections for the BCB President and Vice-President will also be conducted later today.

Out of the 25 director posts on the board, 10 have already been effectively decided. Eight directors have been elected uncontested, while two more will be nominated by the National Sports Council (NSC). Consequently, today’s ballot will see candidates battling it out for the remaining 15 director positions.

According to the BCB constitution, the board is structured around three distinct categories. Category One, representing District and Divisional Sports Associations, elects 10 directors. Category Two, comprising Dhaka Clubs, elects 12 directors. Category Three, which represents former cricketers, captains, and institutions, elects a single director.

In Category Three, former BCB director and Chittagong University councillor Sirajuddin Md. Alamgir has already been elected uncontested as the sole candidate to file a nomination.

While Category One accounts for 10 directors, the distribution across divisions is not uniform. Dhaka, Chattogram, and Khulna divisions yield two directors each, whereas Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, and Barisal divisions elect one director each.

A significant portion of Category One has already been settled without a single vote being cast. From the Chattogram Division, former national chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu and Moin Uddin booked their board seats uncontested as the only two nominees. Similarly securing uncontested victories are Abdul Kaiyum Chowdhury from the Sylhet Division Sports Association, Mir Shakrul Alam Simanto from the Bogura District Sports Association representing the Rajshahi Division, and Mirza Faysal Amin from the Thakurgaon District Sports Association representing the Rangpur Division. From the Dhaka Division, Said Bin Zaman and S.M. Abdullah Al Fuad have also advanced uncontested.

Category One will see active polling only in the Khulna and Barisal divisions today. In Khulna, three candidates—Mohammad Shafiqul Alam, Shantonu Islam, and Mohammad Abdus Salam—are competing for two available seats. In Barisal, a straight fight will take place between Mohammad Mizanur Rahman and Mohammad Muntasir Alam Chowdhury for a single seat.

Meanwhile, a highly competitive battlefield awaits Category Two representing the Dhaka Clubs. Despite the late withdrawals of Mohammad Lutfar Rahman of Legends of Rupganj and Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman of Old DOHS Sports Club, 16 candidates remain in the fray for 12 director spots.

The finalized candidate list for the Dhaka Club category includes Tamim Iqbal of Old DOHS, Fahim Sinha of Abahani, Masuduzzaman of Mohammedan, Rafiqul Islam Babu of Indira Road Krira Chakra, Said Ibrahim Ahmed of Fair Fighters, Israfil Khosru of Axiom Cricketers, Mirza Yasir Abbas of Azad Sporting, and Shaniyan Tanim of Mariners Youngs.

Rounding out the ballot for the club category are Amzad Hossain of Tri-State Cricketers, Syed Borhanul Hossain Pappu of Tejgaon Cricket Academy, Sakif Ahmed Salam of Purbachal Sporting Club, Asif Rabbani of Shinepukur, Fayazur Rahman Mitu of Uttara Cricket Club, Professor Dr. Sarkar Mahbub Hossain Shamim of Dhaka Wanderers Club, Major Imroz of Kathalbagan Crescent Club, and Yasir Mohammad Faysal Ashik of Dhanmondi Sports Club.
