BCL leader arrested over attack on Khaleda Zia's convoy

A Chhatra League (BCL) leader has been arrested in connection with the 2015 attack on Khaleda Zia's convoy during an election campaign in Karwan Bazar.

The arrested individual, Md Abul Hasan (40), is the senior vice president of Tejgaon Thana Chhatra League.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested him early Friday at 4:15am from Monipuripara in Dhaka.

Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP (media), confirmed this.

According to Tejgaon Police, the assault on Khaleda Zia's convoy took place during a campaign at Karwan Bazar on April 20, 2015, while she was there to support the BNP's mayoral candidate, Tabith Awal, for the Dhaka North City Corporation election.

Abul Hasan was named as a suspect in a case filed at Tejgaon Police Station on August 22, 2024, regarding the incident.

Police said, "A case is pending against the arrestee at Tejgaon Police Station, and legal proceedings are underway against him."
