BDR massacre trial to begin today

The trial for the BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) massacre case is set to commence today at a temporary court established within the Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification regarding this on Wednesday.

The notification stated that a temporary court had been set up in an old building near Baksibazar Government Alia Madrasa and the Dhaka Central Jail to conduct the trial of those accused in the BDR killings at Pilkhana headquarters.

However, the building was damaged during the student protests in July-August, which disrupted the trial due to obstruction by the protesters.

It further mentioned that ensuring the transportation and security of the accused had become nearly impossible.

Since the accused are currently detained in Keraniganj Central Jail, holding the trial in a temporary court within the jail would address transportation challenges and enhance security.
