The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of aviation fuel (Jet A-1) by Tk 21.63 per litre for the domestic market, offering some relief after a series of recent hikes.

In a notification issued on Thursday (May 7), the regulator said the new price has been set at Tk 205.45 per litre, down from Tk 227.08. ([BSS][1])

For international flights, the price has been reduced to USD 1.3385 per litre from USD 1.4806, reflecting a decline of USD 0.1421 per litre, according to the commission. ([BSS][1])

The revised rates will come into effect from midnight.

BERC said the adjustment was made based on the average Platts fuel prices recorded between April 5 and May 4, along with changes in the exchange rate of the US dollar and variations in transport and logistics costs.

Officials noted that the latest revision follows a period of volatility in global fuel markets, particularly due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which had previously driven up aviation fuel prices.

Earlier, jet fuel prices in Bangladesh had seen multiple sharp increases in March and April, with domestic rates rising to Tk 227.08 per litre in the previous adjustment cycle.

BERC has been revising jet fuel prices on a monthly basis since taking over pricing authority from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation under a regulatory framework introduced in 2024.
