BFIU seeks bank info of ex-speaker, her family
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has sought the bank account details of former Speaker of Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, along with those of her husband and children.
The BFIU has sent letters in this regard to various banks and financial institutions in the country.
The BFIU letter directed the submission of bank account information for Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, her husband Syed Ishtiaq Hossain, their son Syed Ibtesham Rafiq, and daughter Lamisa Shirin Hossain.
Shireen Sharmin Chaudhury was last elected Member of Parliament from a seat in Rangpur. She became Speaker on April 30, 2013, and has remained in the position since then.
Sheikh Hasina left the country after resigning as prime minister on August 5, following a student uprising. The president subsequently dissolved Parliament, and the Interim Government was sworn in on August 8.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury resigned as Speaker on September 2, 27 days after the downfall of Sheikh Hasina's government.
A murder case has been filed against Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, former Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, and 17 others in connection with the shooting death of gold worker Muslim Uddin in Rangpur. Tipu Munshi is currently in jail in connection with this case.
