The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has blocked an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push back 12 people, including women and children, through the Daulatpur border in Kushtia.

The individuals are currently stranded at the zero line along the border, according to local authorities.

The incident took place in the early hours of Friday (June 12) through the Charbilgathua border area under Pragpur Union in Daulatpur upazila, said Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman.

Border sources and locals said the group was allegedly “pushed in” from across the border through the Charmeghna area under Hogalbaria police station in Nadia district of India’s West Bengal.

Locals initially detained the group before informing BGB personnel, who later intervened and prevented further movement, officials said.

The group was subsequently taken near boundary pillar 148, where efforts were made to send them back across the border.

Following the standoff, the 12 individuals remain stationed in the no-man’s land between the two countries, as both sides maintain positions along the border.

Local residents and BGB personnel are reportedly maintaining a watchful presence in the area to prevent escalation.

OC Arifur Rahman said police were aware of the situation but added that operational decisions and legal steps would be taken in coordination with the Border Guard Bangladesh.

“The matter is directly being handled by BGB. Police will take action as advised by them,” he said.

The incident comes amid continued concerns over cross-border push-in attempts in several frontier districts, often leading to tense situations along the Bangladesh-India border.
