BGB detains 66 people during push-ins thru two Sylhet borders
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 66 individuals attempting to illegally enter Bangladesh from India through two border points in Sylhet district.
Of the total, 52 people were pushed into Bangladesh via the Jaintapur border, while 14 crossed through the Zakiganj border. These incidents occurred late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
According to BGB sources, around 3.00am, the Border Security Force (BSF) of India pushed 32 people into Bangladesh through the Mokampunji border in Jaintapur. Alert BGB personnel from the Sreepur outpost quickly arrested the group. Shortly after, another 20 men, women, and children were pushed through the Minatil border in the same area and detained by BGB members stationed at Minatila Border Outpost.
Later in the morning, 14 more people, including women and children, were pushed across the Zakiganj border and subsequently arrested by the 19th Battalion of BGB.
Authorities are currently verifying the identities of all detainees. Officials confirmed that the individuals will be handed over to local police for further processing.
This follows earlier incidents in May where 16 and 21 people were pushed through the Kanaighat border on May 14 and 24, respectively, and 32 people were detained near the Beanibazar border on May 25.
The BGB stated that border surveillance has been intensified to prevent illegal push-ins, combat border crimes, and ensure overall stability in the area.
