BGB expresses uncertainty over Hadi attackers fled to India
Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) officials said it is not yet confirmed whether the assailants who shot Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi in Dhaka on December 12 crossed into India via the Mymensingh border.
Sector Commander Colonel S G M Mostafizur Rahman, on behalf of BGB, made the remark during a press briefing at Khagdahar BGB Camp in Mymensingh city on Monday (December 15).
However, a joint task force is investigating allegations that suspected human trafficker Philip Senal may have aided their escape, he said.
He added that teams were deployed at all sensitive border points immediately after the attack, with multiple checkposts and additional patrols set up along routes from Mymensingh and Sherpur to tighten security.
Authorities are exploring both possibilities—that the attackers fled to India or remain hidden within Bangladesh.
Colonel Mostafizur further noted that capturing Philip could reveal crucial information about the escape or clarify why his name repeatedly arises in the investigation.
In connection with the case, Philip Senal’s wife Delta Chiran, father-in-law Yerson Randi, and human trafficker Louis Lengming have been detained and handed over to police. Another suspect, Benjamin Chirum, was arrested in Baromari.
