BGB foiled BSF's push-in attempt through Rokonpur border in Chapainawabganj
A fresh attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push 15 people into Bangladesh through the Rokonpur border in Chapainawabganj was thwarted after the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) took an immediate and firm stance, officials said on Saturday (June 13).
According to a press release issued by the Naogaon Battalion (16 BGB), the incident took place around 12:40am on Friday night near border pillar 220/MP under the Rokonpur Border Outpost (BOP).
The statement said members of the BSF's 88 Battalion from the Kotalpur Camp attempted to transport 15 individuals into Bangladesh by boat through a river route. The group comprised two men, eight women and five children.
The individuals were reportedly positioned along the zero line on the Indian side of the border when BGB personnel detected the movement and swiftly deployed to the area, preventing the push-in attempt.
Facing strong resistance and heightened vigilance from BGB, BSF members eventually withdrew the group and took them back into Indian territory through the Bhabanipur area at around 2:40am.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum, commanding officer of the Naogaon Battalion, said BGB remains on maximum alert to prevent push-ins, illegal border crossings and smuggling activities.
"Surveillance has been strengthened across the border, and BGB is fully prepared to resist any form of illegal activity," he said.
The latest incident comes just days after another alleged push-in attempt on June 4, when BSF tried to send 28 people into Bangladesh through the Bangabari border in Chapainawabganj. That attempt was also foiled following BGB intervention.
