BGB foils attempt to push-in of nine women thru Birampur border

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled an alleged attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push nine women across the border into Bangladesh through the Khiyarmamudpur frontier in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur.

The incident took place around 4:30am on Saturday (July 25) near border pillar 291/20-S, according to BGB and local sources.

BGB officials said the women were attempting to enter Bangladesh from the Indian side when border guards, assisted by local residents, rushed to the area and blocked their entry. Unable to cross into Bangladesh, the women were forced to return to the Indian side of the border.

Preliminary information indicates that the nine women had been brought from Amenabad in India’s Gujarat state and were allegedly being pushed toward the Bangladesh border through the Birampur frontier.

BGB said they are currently located near a bamboo grove in the Srirampur area on the Indian side.

Confirming the incident, Subedar Pia Alam, company commander of the local Bhaigarh BGB camp, said border guards detected the movement in the early hours of the morning and immediately took position to prevent any unauthorized entry.

“BGB, with the assistance of local residents, successfully resisted the push-in attempt. The individuals are now positioned near the zero line,” he said.

The BGB official added that patrols in the area have been intensified and that the force remains on maximum alert to prevent any form of illegal cross-border movement.
