BGB foils attempted push-in of 20 people at Chapainawabganj border
The Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) has foiled an attempt to push 20 people through the Chouka border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
The incident took place late Friday night when Indian Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly attempted to push the group into Bangladeshi territory. The BGB intervened, preventing their entry, after which the group remained stranded in the no-man’s land on the Indian side of the border.
According to BGB, the group consists of 11 women, five men and four children.
Confirming the development on Saturday morning (June 20), Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, commanding officer of BGB-59 Battalion, said alert border patrols successfully blocked the attempted push-in.
“They are currently staying in the zero line area on the Indian side. Our patrol teams are on site and the situation is being monitored,” he said.
BGB officials said further details would be provided after on-site assessment and coordination.
