The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said it prevented an alleged attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push three people, including two women, into Bangladesh through the Joypurhat border.

The incident took place around 4:00am near sub-pillar 275/8-S at the West Ramkrishnapur border in Joypurhat Sadar upazila on Saturday (July 11).

The three individuals are currently stranded in no-man's land, officials said.

BGB's Bhutiapara Border Outpost commander, Naib Subedar Shamsuzzaman, confirmed the incident and said preparations were underway for a company commander-level meeting with the BSF to address the matter.

According to local residents, BSF personnel allegedly switched off a border floodlight before attempting to send an elderly man and two women across the frontier. The move was reportedly thwarted after villagers guarding the border alerted BGB, whose members quickly took up positions at the scene.

One of the three individuals has been identified as Hafizur Rahman, 65, while the identities of the two women were not immediately known.

The incident comes amid recurring allegations of cross-border push-in attempts along parts of the Bangladesh-India frontier. Authorities said further developments would depend on the outcome of talks between the two border forces.
