The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local residents successfully prevented an attempt by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) to push around 750 people into Bangladesh through the Brahmanbaria border early Friday morning.

Tensions flared overnight between the two forces along the border, according to local witnesses.

Sources said that Indian authorities recently detained over 600 people in Tripura and 148 in Rajasthan during a nationwide crackdown, with New Delhi claiming most detainees are Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.

At approximately 2 a.m., the BSF reportedly transported the detainees to the Singerbil border area in Bijoynagar upazila, Brahmanbaria, intending to push them into Bangladesh.

The BGB, alerted to the plan, deployed forces to the border, while locals also gathered to block the move.

Union Parishad Member Mamun Chowdhury said the BSF was forced to retreat after facing resistance.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sadhana Tripura confirmed the situation has normalized but said vigilance remains high.

Lt Col Jabbar Ahammed, BGB-25 Battalion commandant, stated that the force acted cautiously after receiving information about the possible push-in, with locals observing from nearby.
