BGB returns fire after BSF opens gunfire along Sylhet border
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) returned fire after India’s Border Security Force (BSF) opened fire along the border in Goainghat upazila of Sylhet.
The information was confirmed through the media wing of the 48 BGB Battalion on Tuesday (May 19).
According to BGB, the situation was quickly brought under control through the force’s “firm and professional response,” and no casualties were reported in the incident.
BGB said the incident took place in the Sonarhat border area under the jurisdiction of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) on Monday afternoon. BSF personnel allegedly opened fire toward the border, prompting BGB members to respond immediately with retaliatory firing.
The border situation later returned to normal and the area is currently calm and stable, the force added.
Following the incident, patrols and surveillance in the border area have been intensified.
The 48 BGB headquarters stated that the force remains on maximum alert to deal with any provocative or unwanted situation along the frontier and is carrying out its duties with professionalism and determination to protect the country’s sovereignty and border security.
BGB also urged local public representatives and residents living near the border not to cross the border illegally or engage in unauthorized activities in the area.
