A Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) operation on Thursday night (July 17) recovered smuggled Indian goods worth approximately Tk 6 crore, the largest seizure to date in the region.

The items, intercepted along the Sylhet–Sunamganj border, included sarees, cosmetic products, sunglasses, livestock, and boats used for illegal stone extraction.

Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Haque, commander of the 48 BGB, briefed reporters Friday morning at the BGB headquarters. He announced that, acting on secret intelligence and with Army cooperation, personnel seized the contraband from border outposts in Pratappur, Pratappur Damdamiya, Sreepur, Bichnakandi (Gowainghat), Jaintapur (Sylhet), and Sonalichela (Chhatak, Sunamganj).

In a separate raid on an abandoned warehouse near the Sari River between Gowainghat and Fatehpur, the BGB recovered significant amounts of cosmetic products concealed inside the facility.

Authorities also seized several boats used to smuggle stones from the river, combining the total market value of all items to around Tk 6 crore.

Lt. Col. Nazmul Haque stated that intensified BGB operations and intelligence efforts were launched to enhance border security and curb smuggling and drug trafficking, in compliance with directives from higher command.
