BGB urges to remain cautious regarding false propaganda
Recently, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has stated that there is a deliberate spread of baseless and fabricated information on social media regarding the role of BGB and its Director General (DG) Major General Ashraf in the anti-discrimination student movement. The BGB has urged people not to pay attention to these rumors and to stand by the truth.
This request was made through a verified post on BGB's official Facebook page on Saturday. The post mentions that a group is deliberately trying to mislead the public through false propaganda.
The BGB has expressed regret that such false information is being spread in the name of the BGB and its DG. The claims include that the BGB Chief was involved in killings during the student movement and that Indian nationals were brought onto the field dressed in local attire. Even fabricated claims about a conspiracy to keep Sheikh Hasina in power and the murder of students are being spread. The BGB has stated that these are completely baseless and fabricated allegations.
The Facebook post further states, "On August 5, there were no discussions regarding the killing of 10,000 people or keeping Sheikh Hasina in power with the Minister of Home Affairs. From the morning of August 5, BGB supported the student and public movement at the entry points of Dhaka. Any BGB members who acted unprofessionally have been subjected to disciplinary action."
The BGB added that it is clear that a vested group, based on a video, is spreading these false rumors to tarnish the reputation of the BGB and its DG and mislead the general public.
The force has urged the public to verify information and present the truth to avoid confusion. The BGB has reiterated its commitment to standing by the people of the country and fulfilling its duties in the future.
