Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) are set to hold their 56th border conference at the BGB headquarters in capital's Peelkhana from August 25 to 28.
A high-level BSF delegation is set to visit Dhaka on this occasion, the Indian Home Ministry confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday (August 23).
The conference will address several key issues, including preventing attacks by Bangladeshi miscreants on BSF personnel and Indian citizens near the border, combating cross-border crime, constructing a single line of barbed wire fencing, taking action against anti-India groups in Bangladesh, addressing border infrastructure challenges, implementing the Integrated Border Management Plan (IBMP) on the Bangladesh-India border, and promoting mutual trust and cooperation.
The inaugural conference between the Border Guards of Bangladesh and India was held on December 2, 1975, in Kolkata. The Bangladesh delegation was led by Major General Qazi Golam Dastagir, while the BSF was represented by then Director General Ashwini Kumar.
The most recent BGB-BSF meeting took place in New Delhi from February 17 to 20.
Notably, this marks the first visit of a BSF delegation to Dhaka since the ousting of Sheikh Hasina following the August 5, 2024.
