BGB-RAB swoop on Sylhet border yields haul of explosives, firearm
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have recovered 11 detonators, 11 explosive devices, and a one-shooter gun in a joint operation near the Sylhet border, authorities said Sunday (June 28).
The operation was conducted Saturday night around 10:00pm in the Sonasar Bricks Field area of Barothakuri Union in Zakiganj upazila — approximately 1.5 kilometres inside Bangladesh from the zero line under the jurisdiction of Biabail Border Outpost (BOP) of the 19 BGB Zakiganj Battalion.
The items were found abandoned at the site. However, no arrests were made.
Commanding Officer of 19 BGB Zakiganj Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Md Zubayer Anwar confirmed the recovery on Sunday and said the explosives are believed to have been smuggled into Bangladesh.
He credited the seizure to BGB's sustained intelligence operations, field deployments, and vigilant border monitoring.
