The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has advised several export-oriented garment factories near Shahjalal International Airport to remain closed on Thursday ahead of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s return from London.

In a notice signed by BGMEA Acting Secretary Md. Saiful Islam on Monday (December 23), the association cited potential large crowds near the airport and surrounding areas, including Uttara (East and West), North Khan, South Khan, Khilkhet, Abdullahpur, Turag, Tongi, Pubail, Rupganj, Kanchan Bridge, and eastern Ashulia.

The notice also highlighted possible disruptions to workers’ commute and import-export logistics.

BGMEA urged factory owners to make necessary arrangements, including adjusting work schedules or coordinating with worker representatives to provide holidays on Thursday while compensating on another day.

Additionally, the association recommended using alternative routes for covered vans and other vehicles engaged in urgent import-export operations until normal conditions resume.
