Bhashan Char fire death toll rises to 5

Another Rohingya child who suffered burn injuries in a gas cylinder blast at Bhashan Char Rohingya camp on Saturday (24 February) died at Chattogram Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) on Thursday morning, taking the death toll from the incident to five.

The victim was identified as Rushmidka, 3. She was the daughter of Abdur Shukkar, a resident of Room No. 6 of Cluster No. 81 at Bhasan Char Rohingya Camp.

Rushmidka suffered 52% burn injuries. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at CMCH this morning, said Noakhali Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Asaduzzaman.

He said, "Five children have died due to gas cylinder blast at Bhashan Char so far. Another two persons who suffered burns are currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College and Hospital. They are - Jobaida (22) and Amena Khatun (24)."

On Saturday (24 February), nine people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded at the Rohingya camp in Bhashan Char area. Of them, seven were taken to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
